When was the last time you really acknowledged what you were eating?
It can be hard to find time to always enjoy what you are eating but when you stop, sit and eat, it is the perfect opportunity to check in and connect with your mind and body and become aware of what you are really doing!
Eating is meant to give us energy, health and well-being, but under the pressures of work, money, deadlines and lack of knowledge, it is often cheaper and easier for us to grab fast food, full of processed ingredients.
Not finding time to connect with your food or eating the right foods, will leave you feeling sluggish, tired, unhealthy and lacking results! So maybe its time for a change – maybe its time to become mindful!
The concept is simple:
To live in and accept the moment
To be present
To be connected
To quieten your mind
Eat with the intention of caring for your mind and body:
Respect your body and eat to fuel your vibrant lifestyle, rather than just for emotional comfort or boredom. Ask yourself are you really hungry? If so, what do you want to give to your body to treat it as good as possible?
Your body relies on you to look after it and treat it well. When you do this, you can rely on it to carry you through an enjoyable and healthy life.
Eat with the attention necessary to really appreciate the experience:
Think about where the food has come from, and be thankful for the sun, the water, the earth, and all the people who made it possible for you to be eating your natural food right now. With every mouthful, learn to be present.
To pause… and to connect.
Of course, to do this for every mouthful at every meal can be time consuming and old habits can be difficult to break. So take small steps.
Focus on three mouthfuls in a meal: the first, the last, and one in the middle.
If you are eating alone, turn it into a challenge. Can you remain truly mindful of what you are doing for the entire experience?
Hopefully, before long, you’ll find eating with intention and attention not only natural, but truly rewarding and fulfilling.
Enjoy your food. Enjoy the present moment. Honour your health and body and remember the secret of positive change is to not focus your energy on fighting old habits but on moving forward and building the new.
Become those changes you wish to see.
