5 Reasons You Should Start Lifting Weights Today!

Over the years as a Transformation Coach I’ve heard lots of worries about lifting weights. Weights are there to help you develop sculpted, lean muscle not make you big and bulky!
Everyone benefits from lifting weights and regardless of age, size, shape or goal – lifting weights has benefits for you!
When you lift weights, you are pushing your muscle to fatigue. The result is a hypertrophic state, which aids your body to build lean muscle.
Remember – safety first! If you don’t know what is safe ask an Evo Coach. If you can’t keep proper form, then the weight is too heavy!
5 Reasons Why You Should Lift Weights:
1. Improving Mobility and Flexibility: Performing weight exercises correctly and using full range of motion within the moving muscle will strengthen and increase your range of flexibility. Combining weight exercises with flexibility and plyometrics (like we do at Evo!) ensures your body is gaining athletic benefits in all directions.
2. Add Lean Muscle and Burn Fat:
The more muscle you have directly relates to the more calories you burn, both during that workout and after. Yes, when you lift weights, you continue to add lean muscle, shed fat and calories for hours after!
The reason for this is that muscle is the main force for driving your metabolic rate; it requires energy to renew itself as you continue to train and the energy used is from your fat.
Weight training helps to sculpt your body making it leaner, tighter and even more beautiful. The more you train, the more sculpted you get, the more fat you burn; it is as simple as that!
3. Build Core Strength and Lessen Back Pain:
When you lift heavy weights, you have to engage your core muscles in order to lift the weight. Some of the best core conditioning is with strength training exercises, such as Clean and Press!
Over 80% of our adult population suffers with some form of back pain! While improper form can hurt your lower back, lifting weights correctly can strengthen your overall core muscles and develop the area surrounding your spine. When lifting weights, you activate your lower back to lift that weight, strengthening that area and the larger muscles to assist in supporting the pressure around your back.
4. A Healthy, Happy You:
Lifting weights helps to lover your blood pressure and promote a healthier heart-positive changes I see with our clients all the time! Lean muscle helps to regulate your blood sugar levels as they can absorb more glucose. Alongside the right nutrition, with lifting weights, your mood, cholesterol and blood pressure all improve!
5. A Sense of Accomplishment:
When you do something that you haven’t been able to do for a while, or maybe never before and you see how much you are helping your health and fitness improve- this is one of the most rewarding things that you can do for yourself!
You will be amazed how much you can accomplish and improve. Feel proud of your increased fitness. You worked hard for that accomplishment and deserve a pat on the back!
Know your limits and test your barriers in a smart and focused way. You can do anything you set your mind to. Lift weights to better your strength, your fitness, your physique and most importantly your health!
