Frequent meals enables you to spread your daily
calorie intake over 5-6 meals stimulating your metabolism –keeping it going at
a faster pace and thereby burning more calories! Now that’s an incentive!
Fuelling your body this way will ensure that you keep your energy
levels up and you do not suffer sugar cravings or mid-day fatigue!
Frequent meals should include protein, vegetables and
a little good fat. Restricting your calorie intake is a big no-no as this will make your body cling to fat and keep it stored to preserve energy, this is know as ‘body survival’
mode and is not a good way to get the results you want or to live a healthy
life.
If you go for long periods without food, your body will start to
break down muscle ‘tone’ you have worked hard to achieve in your workouts and
use this as energy, this in turn will slow your metabolism and therefore you
will struggle to get the long term results you are working so hard to achieve!
Plan to eat every 3 hours and remember preparation is key with a
healthy living plan, so prepare in advance, for example keep a huge colourful nutritious
salad in the fridge along with cooked chicken breast/turkey/egg and take some
day by day to work with you in a Tupperware box.
