The most common and heart-breaking question I get asked is;
“How long did it take you to feel good about yourself?”
This breaks my heart, for the people who judge themselves so severely and also for my personal answer, which was – A very long time!
One of the hardest things for us to do is to love ourselves – unconditionally – not when we get a 6 pack or lose dress sizes, or become fitter or stronger, or look the way society expects us too, but love ourselves now and in the future regardless of shape, size and negative media.
I was always concerned with how I looked for years and had very little confidence, I never thought I was pretty enough, clever enough, perfect enough! Sound familiar?
As I became stronger, fitter and leaner over the years, I realised my self-doubt was still not going away…..of course it wasn’t!
No amount of training or good nutrition can change what is in your head!
True you may have periods where you feel good due to those factors, but then you would be right back to your critical self-demanding more perfection to get you to the next level.
By adopting certain principles – I have learnt to fill my life and guide myself with positivity and when you are happy every day, looking after your body and well-being becomes a blessing and not a chore!
Use Positive Affirmations Every Day –
‘I train because I love exercise, I love my body and want what is best for it!’
‘I eat super healthy because it makes me feel happy, light and full of energy!’
‘I meditate, because I like to quiet the inner voice (our ego) and bring out the true me!’
Praise Yourself –
Build up your inner spirit, appreciate your body and mind and make a written/mental list of all the amazing things they enable you to experience.
Be Kind To Your Being –
Do not hate yourself for having certain experiences, realise that out of hardship comes a blessing, lesson or gift to enable you to be who you are!
Stand With An Army –
Surround yourself with people who adore the real you and will support your highs and your lows.
Take Care Of You –
Give your body the right kind of fuel – exercise and nutrition! Make your home and the longest relationship you will ever have the best relationship.
When you love yourself, you open your heart for the whole world to love you back!
This is how you learn to FLY (First Love Yourself)
